Lovely suite, lovely neighborhood, lovely Savannah!

I could not have been more pleased with the entire accommodation! I felt as though I had a chic apartment, in a fun, mature and inclusive end of town. Perfect for this Yankee Millennial. Can't wait to come back and will stay at Galloway again!

For those visiting in the summer months or simply those that like to pack light, there is washer/dryer access which is a real help! A full kitchen can allow for an entire cozy day indoors, complete with coffee! For the same pricing as flimsy and spartan Air BnB’s or corporate hotels, I was grateful we chose a real Southern gem to rest and cooldown in July. Our trip was greatly enhanced by the Galloway House Inn experience!

More details:

Huge and comfortable bed with personal reading lamps. Lovely living room set-up. Beautiful artwork and decor. Could feel it was a well-loved home and a cherished space.

Gorgeous and cozy front porch. Tropical oasis of a private back garden. Hosts are easy to communicate with and generous in their help. They are open to socializing or giving you 100% privacy; something for both extroverts and introverts to enjoy!

A block or two in any direction leads you to a variety of restaurants for all meals and cravings of the day! To venture into town, the free Trolley has a stop right nearby.

Personalized, private entry to lodging. Abundant shades and curtains. Two Great Danes also reside on the premises- nature's guards!

Quality and quirky breakfast, lunch and dinner spots all around. Close to Bull Street with lots of restaurants and bars, but not so close that you hear any merry-making in the late hours!

Nothing short of spectacular!

The Galloway house was nothing short of magical. It was an all-around 5 Star experience in an historic Inn. The Inn keeper Keith was lovely and beyond accommodating. The property is lush and the location perfect. Quiet and feels cozy like home. Don’t forget to spend some time on the front porch.

Room Tip: Make time for a picnic on the front porch one evening! It’s magical.

Wonderful Experience, First Class Luxury Accommodations, Southern Style.

Stayed in the Renwick Suite. It had the style and charm of a bygone era. Clean, comfortable and very relaxing. Our hosts were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Since we were there during the Kentucky Derby, even invited us to the Derby Day party in the main house along with drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

Beautiful home in a great area of town!

We absolutely loved our carriage house apartment. It was roomy, beautiful and had everything we needed. The bottled water and coffee were especially a nice addition. The bed was very comfortable and loved the large walk-in bathroom shower.

My favorite part was the main home front porch. We spent lots of afternoon time reading and relaxing There were some great restaurants and coffee shops within a few blocks. It’s a quiet and safe area of town. The owners were great to talk with too!

Plush and Serene!

The Galloway House is the perfect location from which to explore Savannah. It's easy enough to get to the big tourist sites, and we were happy to be in this peaceful residential neighborhood once the weekend crowds descended on downtown.

There are also several excellent restaurants and bars right nearby.

Our host Keith was full of good advice, and provided a lavishly decorated, very comfortable suite of rooms, including kitchen stocked with coffee, tea and ice water.

A charming garden and gorgeous front porch provided additional spots for soaking up the lovely atmosphere. Hope to return someday.

Highly Recommend the Galloway House Inn

Our experience at the Galloway House Inn was wonderful. Our two night stay in the Renwick Suite of this charming southern inn was very comfortable. The suite was clean and offered all the amenities needed for a longer stay.

Keith, our host was very hospitable and accommodating. Even though we arrived a few hours before our check-in time, he welcomed us and met us at the curb to show us around and give us a brief description of the history of the inn, the neighborhood, and Savannah. He even joined us on the quaint porch one evening for a cocktail and some pleasant conversation.

The inn is within walking distance of a few nice restaurants and the free shuttle to the historic district. We walked the 1.5 miles into the historic district, but opted for the free shuttle back after a long day of exploring Savannah by foot. My husband and I would highly recommend a stay at the Galloway House Inn for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Savannah and experience some true southern charm and hospitality.

Perfect in Every Way!

Absolutely perfect! We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-night stay while visiting our daughter. The room was beautiful and comfortable, quiet and private. It was extremely clean and the lush grounds are lovingly maintained.

Take a moment (even if you’re constantly busy and having to rush off) and enjoy the amazing front porch, it will re-set your day.

The location is great, there are fantastic restaurants within walking distance, and they’re better than the restaurants in the crowded tourist section. We have no complaints and look forward to visiting again next year. Thank you Jim and Keith!

Great Getaway in Historic Savannah

We enjoyed the carriage house for 2 nights. Keith the host met us upon arrival, explained the accommodations and spent some time explaining what Savannah has to offer. He is very personable. We really felt at home in the carriage house. It had all of the amenities that we needed.

The grounds are impeccable - landscaped like a resort!

The Galloway House is located on a quiet street in a residential neighborhood, yet an easy walk to the Savannah historic district. We walked downtown, to historic sites, and out to dinner (great dinner recommendations from Keith). Fun couple of days.

A Great Find!

I am glad that I trusted all the positive reviews of the Galloway House Inn. The Caroline Suite was lovely - every room was perfectly decorated, clean, and comfortable. We appreciated the great mattress, high quality sheets and towels, reading lights on both sides of the bed, and the ease of free parking on the street.

The location turned out to be great too -- an easy walk to Forsyth Park etc. and many restaurants (we really liked Cotton and Rye). Highly recommend Galloway House Inn!

Southern Style, Southern Hospitality

My wife and I chose wisely during our recent stay in Savannah, opting for the quiet, peaceful elegance of the Galloway House rather than the frenetic, tourist-filled downtown riverfront area. It meant a pleasant 30-minute walk to the historic district, but gave us a chance to enjoy the fabulous Forsyth Park and the equally fabulous weather.

It also meant no pay-through-the-nose parking fees and major driving stress in downtown Savannah. If you prefer not to walk, the free trolley to downtown and back stops just a couple of blocks away. Don't trust their schedule too much, though.

Jim and Keith are superb hosts, jealously guarding their guests' peace and privacy, while quick to make suggestions on any aspect of the city which they obviously love. There are several delightful small restaurants and cafes within a few blocks which we thoroughly enjoyed--patronized by the locals (meaning they are good) rather than by the tourist crowd.

The Inn is impeccably clean, quiet, and each unique room has all necessary amenities. The bed was the most comfortable I've enjoyed in all our travels. The Inn's garden is a delight.

Highly recommended. Wish we could have stayed longer.

2 Night Stay

Stayed here for a couple of nights with one of my friends and it was pretty solid. The first night we ended up having a third person which was against the rules so we got fined $300 which sucked, but I kind of understand because of how they actually live there. It was our fault (we didn’t read the terms and conditions). So don’t do that but the hosts were super nice as well as their home. I wouldn’t recommend this for friends visiting together, but more so for a couples trip. The garden is really pretty and the front porch is also awesome. Trollies make is easy to get to places and they recommend you local spots which were really nice.

Great place to stay if you want to experience Savannah. Keith was an awesome host. He gave us great recommendations on resturants and places to go. He really knew the history of Savannah. Just like the last 2 times it was perfection! I love this place! It’s very convenient to get on the free shuttle to tour Savannah… it is impeccably clean, the linens and beds are very soothing and comfortable..it’s great to have a full kitchen so I can save on eating out… I particularly favored the sun porch to read and enjoy my morning coffee… the Galloway House is also a great value!! Experience a Real Savannah Neighborhood

A totally charming place in a delightful residential neighborhood full of coffee shops and good restaurants.

The host was extremely helpful in pointing out the free trolly and interesting sights to take in.

Our carriage house was well equipped, well decorated and really felt like home. There were brochures in the room to suggest local sights, note pads to use for planning and fresh coffee beans and a grinder for that morning necessity. Would stay there again anytime.

An Exceptional Stay

Jim met us upon arrival and shared a lot of great information about nearby restaurants and the free shuttle to the riverfront, which was only 2 short blocks away. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay.

This place was amazing! We would definitely recommend anyone come and stay here. The place had all the amenities needed and more. They had water in the fridge, waiting for us, mints by the bed, and the customer service was amazing. The location couldn’t have been better. There were coffee, shops and restaurants right within walking distance and downtown was about a 12 minute walk from this place. Other than traveling to Tybee Island, and Hilton head for a day visit there was no reason we even needed a car. The hosts were unbelievably accommodating, and the place was clean and perfect for our getaway.

We will be back for sure !

Amazing vacation

The Galloway Inn is an excellent place to stay! We stayed in a little cottage house in the back of the main house. Very nice, private, quite and great Savannah feel to it. Being in the historical district, we were close to many restaurants and attractions. The gardens on the grounds are beautiful. Jim and Keith are very accommodating. Anything you need is provided. Such a great Southern welcoming. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

Lovely carriage house-cottage

We booked four nights in the Galloway House Inn carriage house, a small freestanding structure in the back garden of the main house (consequently, I cannot speak to the experience of staying in the rest of the inn). Hosts Jim and Keith were friendly and ready with recommendations when we asked. We had trouble with our flights/arrival time/luggage, and they stayed in contact with us until we were actually able to arrive at their door.

We are walkers, and this was a perfect place for us: an easy 20-min walk through beautiful squares to the historic district; quiet, and less crowded. We went to three wonderful restaurants within our neighborhood: Bull Street Taco, Elizabeth on 37th, and Cotton and Rye (the latter 2 on the recommendation of our hosts) and avoided the crowds at the river nicely.

The carriage house is very comfortable for two (one of us being 6'2"), with bedroom, bath, kitchen and sitting room. All are thoughtfully appointed and decorated, and comfortable. It was lovely to walk through the spring garden to our door; the plantings are whimsical and lush. The neighborhood is quiet and safe, and there is a local grocery market and a Kroger within easy distance, so we easily stocked up breakfast food for leisurely mornings. The local coffee supplied by the hosts was delicious.

This beautifully restored inn hearkens back to Savannah's history in so many fantastic ways!

We stayed here over Easter weekend with another couple and it was really special. The hosts, Keith and Jim, made us feel so welcome upon our arrival and all the while during our stay, absolutely going above and beyond our expectations. The home is exquisite, beautifully decorated, and appointed with everything we could possibly need. It is located in a quieter section of the city, which we preferred after staying at a boutique hotel on the waterfront during our last visit to Savannah. There is absolutely something for everyone here. We walked everywhere, took in all of the gorgeous parks, did an evening Ghost Tour, shopped, ate at fabulous places, and even shipped home a few treasures! In the evenings we curled up on the front porch and relaxed amongst the collected treasures. (I literally could have stayed there forever.) For breakfast, there are quaint coffee shops within walking distance and for dinner, Elizabeth on 37th, one of the best restaurants in Savannah, is right around the corner. With Keith and Jim's help we were able to get a coveted reservation the night before we left.

It was a perfect ending to a wonderful stay!

Beautiful Garden and House

We stayed in the Caroline 1st floor apartment. It's the perfect little 1 bed tiny house with kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom located behind the main house in their lovely garden. I could have easily moved in permanently.

It's location was great for what we wanted with good transportation available. We walked everywhere but they do have a trolley close by.

Highly recommend!

Wonderful Home with Gracious Hosts

We spent two nights at the Galloway House Inn, and enjoyed every minute. It was great to be in a place that welcomed our dog, not merely tolerate pets.

The home itself was comfortable, and as first time visitors to Savannah, the host Jim gave us an overview of the town, neighborhoods to visit, and great restaurants where we can avoid the tourists.

We would definitely stay there again if we were to visit Savannah again!

Elegant Home!

The Galloway House Inn was absolutely stunning. Beautiful 19th century architecture. The location was roughly 8 blocks South of Forsyth park. There were many choices of restaurants and cafes within 4 blocks.

This Victorian beauty is a wonder to look at! The hosts were attentive and knowledgeable of the area, but did not impose after checking us in. Went Back for the Second Time!

There just isn't a better place to stay in Savannah if you're looking for comfort, quiet, convenience, elegance, and room to stretch out! It is a five minute drive to the historic district but that's easy and the parking here is free. Staying here feels like being in a friend's home.

We went for a girlfriend's birthday weekend and we are of an age where everyone prefers their own bedroom and bathroom, which we all had. The birthday girl and I stayed in the Remington Suite on the first floor which has a dining room, sunporch, and living room more than big enough to accommodate all four of us; as well as a full kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The other two of our group stayed in the Renwick and Caroline suites which also have kitchens and living rooms.

The Remington Suite is light, bright and airy with all the accessories anyone could want; the furnishings are beautiful and carefully curated. In all the suites, the beds, and linens are wonderful, the pillows are comfortable, and the towels are exceptional. There were mints on our bedside tables, fresh flowers in the bedrooms, oodles of bottles of water in the fridge and coffee to grind for breakfast with sugars and creamers.

One short block away is Foxy Loxy Cafe which is a great place to stroll over to and grab a pastry or two for breakfast - and they were yummy. There are many restaurants in the area, cute shops and the Inn has a beautiful back garden, and wide front veranda for people watching.

Really, you can't ask for a better experience. As a travel writer about Savannah, I checked the prices of having four hotel rooms downtown where we would have not had a nice common space to gather for cocktails and after dinner conversations, and the price for the Remington and two other suites here was less without considering that in town you mostly pay $25 - $35/night for parking.

I had stayed a couple of years ago with other friends and was quite excited to return. Jim and Keith - thank you for such a great experience, again!

Great, Safe escape during COVID!

We just spent the last week in Savannah and loved the historic city. Just beautiful! Equally fantastic was our stay at The Galloway House Inn. Everything was wonderful. We could not have asked for better hosts and accommodations.

We were especially pleased at how clean and the precautions used during this pandemic. Our accommodation had private exterior entrance to our private suite. No crossing paths at all with other guests. The Inn is beautiful and so comfortable. We felt like we were home. We also loved the neighborhood and all the wonderful restaurants close by.

Really charming Inn located in the historic district of Savannah near many restaurants, quaint shops, easy walking to some attractions. The room we had we nicknamed the “Penthouse” as it was on the (3rd) floor, bit of a climb with luggage but none the less delightful. Just like a mini apartment, kitchen, sitting area, great bedroom, cool window seat nook, small but completely renovated bathroom. We enjoyed our stay and would probably stay again although we might request one of their other rooms on the first floor.

Jim was fantastic and made us feel so welcome and did everything to make our stay very nice. Nice spot.

Inviting Southern Experience

Friendly and personalized attention from booking to in-person greeting (including special hello from Great Dane Hudson). Stayed in the Remington Suite, which is actually a full two-bedroom apartment - including Dining Room & kitchen - comprising the entire first floor of the large house. Art-filled rooms provide character and a special place to relax after sightseeing.

Very good deal, especially with free on-street parking. Location in gentrifying neighborhood is 30+ minute walk to the riverside, but a pleasant respite from the tourist bustle.

We loved The Galloway House and will be back!!

My husband and I were passing through Savannah in the fall and at the last minute chose The Galloway House for a two-night stay. From the moment we met our host, we knew we could not have chosen better!! Keith was very happy to share his knowledge of the area with us, and help us learn the best ways to get around Savannah, a lovely, walkable city. Our private second floor carriage house apartment was gorgeous!!! The interior decor was fabulous and it overlooked a beautiful, intimate southern house garden. We spent two evenings in the garden enjoying the complimentary bottle of wine provided by our host. When our original reservation period was up, we knew we wanted to stay another night, and Keith graciously accommodated us. The beautiful Galloway House is located in a great Savannah neighborhood with plenty of vey nice restaurants nearby, and within easy walking distance of downtown Savannah. We highly recommend The Galloway House to all who wish to explore this lovely city. We will be back!!

Every detail was meticulous. It was spacious the kitchen was updated and we just loved the veranda. Decorated with great antiques. We stayed in an apartment, really, not a suite. Girls Trip - Friend’s Birthday

Our very first trip to Savannah and it was amazing. The communication from Jim was great, he emailed prior to our arrival and texted the day of, which was very greatly appreciated. I loved that they awaited our arrival. My friend checked us in as I was running a little late, but he gave great info about Savannah and things to do. We actually tried the coffee shop Foxy Loxy and Sly’s Burgers which he recommended and they both were great choices. The room was nice, clean and spacious. I envisioned our bedroom to be inside within the house, like the traditional bed and breakfast but this was a great surprise being separate. I’m not sure if there was a common area inside for breakfast because we were gone early most days. It’s very close to the historic district and we walked to Forsyth Park for our hop on/off tour. I enjoyed our stay and def would recommend.

Quaint, beautiful and more than we expected!

I booked the Caroline suite for a getaway for my mom and I. It was on the first floor of the carriage house which was nestled in the back of the house among a beautifully kept garden. We had a kitchen stocked with water, orange juice, yogurt ,coffee dishes and all necessary appliances. It also had a nice sitting room with a nice TV and DVD player and a copy of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil which I was very excited about! They also had books on Savannah, etc. It was filled with many needs and completed with well thought out details. The bed was also super comfy and the bathroom was clean and modern. The owners were helpful and we were able to check in before 4. The Inn is outside of the historic district but we found some nice eateries within walking distance and adjusted just fine with using Uber and the Trolley service. We did walk from the Inn to River Street one day and my mom is 72 so it is walkable. We loved our stay and would recommend!

Amazing Southern Elegance

From the moment we arrived we were overwhelmed by the surroundings in Historic Savanah, never thinking it could get any better, the owners Jim & Keith of the Galloway Inn blew us away!

I cannot believe how much thought went into every detail of their property; from the welcoming front porch to the bold entrance, antiques, lighting and color palette. We chose the spacious two bedroom which had every amenity you would ever need from a lovely living area, an indoor porch, amazing dining too, two beautiful bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen and lovely garden!!

I cannot day enough about our experience except to say that we will most definitely return!!

We stayed in the Remington Suite and couldn't have been more comfortable. The linens, furnishings, amenities, were absolutely the very best; everything was beautifully appointed with great attention to detail. There were muffins and bagels and cream cheese for breakfast; we booked directly and had wine waiting for us.

Warm, Classy, Inviting

Stayed at The Galloway House in November, 2018. Highly recommend. The accommodations were outstanding. Stayed in the main house, 1st floor. Everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. There's even a comfy reading room that I utilized. Thank you Keith and Jim!

Highest standards of accommodations.

In November, 2018 I, along with 2 GFs, stayed at the Galloway House Inn after a 9 year absence. I won’t let that happen again. It met all my expectations and then some. We were in the grand, yet cozy Remington Suite. It is spotless, beautifully furnished, has comfortable beds with a well-equipped kitchen. Plan to spend one evening in to enjoy dinner under the twinkling lights of the crystal chandelier, have your aperativo on the front porch and a digestivo on the sun porch. I also recommend visiting off season. Savannah is more manageable and restaurant and tour reservations are easier to book. Above all, just GO.

Buy trip insurance.

This restored house is beautiful on the outside...

We had some initial issues with management. My mothers house was flooded by hurricane florence and we wanted to move our weekend - not cancel, not skip out on a paying, just move it so we could be of help in a dire time for my mother. If you are looking for flexibility, look elsewhere or buy trip insurance. I was surprised by

Best of Savannah

Our hosts and this place just might be the most charming in Savannah. While currently outside the core city area this location inside Stardust gives you the best of both worlds. The accommodations are absolutely charming and the hosts are fantastic. If you are active, the walk to town and to Forsyth Park are totally doable, but to be in this up-and-coming district gives you some of the best cafés and restaurants and boutique shops that you might not see if you opted to stay near Bay Street. When we return to Savannah this will undoubtedly be our place

Wonderful stay at a beautiful home in May 2018

This is not a hotel, but a beautiful house with separate apartments. We stayed in the apartment behind the large lovely house. In order to arrive at our apartment we walked through a magnificent garden. There are chairs outside so we could eat, talk, or just enjoy the beautiful foliage. We also sat on the porch of the house. It is in a quiet neighborhood in Savannah mostly with residences. There are a few businesses in the area, but it is still very quiet. We would sometimes eat breakfast in our apartment because a grocery store is walking distance. Also, tea bags, coffee, Chobani yogurts, etc. were in the apartment when we arrived. Foxy Loxy is a nice breakfast place nearby, if you would rather go out. Go into the garden in the back where there are many tables. There are also some restaurants nearby for dinner. The owners are extremely responsive. We needed some more items, and they were promptly delivered to us. They will advise you on restaurants and sites in the area. They had provided maps of the area, and answered our questions about Savannah. As people mention, the house is not far from downtown. A nice walk or a short Uber drive.

Great value near the heart of Savannah!

My wife and I stayed five nights in the Caroline apartment (first floor of the carriage house). Everything was very clean and nicely decorated, and Keith & Jim were great hosts. Since the house is a few blocks away from the touristy historic area, parking was free and easy, and we were close to several great local restaurants that weren't too crowded. Would definitely go back!

Just lovely!

This is a lovely house with four different rental apartments. We had the smaller one, the Turner Loft, and it was just perfect. It is at the top level and is just lovely and looks just like the photos. It is nice and roomy. Kitchen, living and bedroom areas. If you have trouble with stairs, there are two apartments on the ground floor, one in the main house and one in the carriage house. The location is perfect. It is in a quiet residential area, but very close and easy to get to all of the sights. The owners are great and very responsive to any questions. We would definitely stay here again; a mush better value than a boring hotel room.

Nice, quiet location

We really enjoyed staying here! The location is great, close enough to walk everywhere but far enough away that it stays quiet. We did uber to our ghost tour, it ran approximately $5 in each direction. The hosts have thought of everything you will need for your visit, including several maps of the area highlighting historic sights and restaurants. We stayed in the Turner loft, it was very spacious for 2 people, and has a washer and dryer. I would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you like the ability to walk everywhere.

Enjoy The Southern Experience!

Don't stay in a chain hotel! Immerse yourself in the Savannah lifestyle. We were greeted by Jim who gave us all the information we needed about the neighborhood and how best to enjoy Savannah. We stayed in the first floor carriage house. Jim and Keith welcome you with a bottle of wine in your room. The kitchen is stocked with bagels, muffins, orange juice, water, yogurt, granola bars and coffee beans to be freshly ground! Small living room and bedroom with a comfortable bed! Just a short walk to Forsyth Park where you can pick up Dot for free transportation to historic downtown. We chose to enjoy the day and walk through the beautiful squares and neighborhoods. This is the perfect place to stay for a memorable time in Savannah!

Clean, comfortable & quiet

We were warmly greeted by Keith and had a great chat as he showed us around the property and out to our little private coach house at the back. I am assuming it must have been a coach house at one time because of the cobble stoned floor in the kitchen area. This little house is very well appointed with a full kitchen, comfortable living area and separate bedroom. The only thing missing was a table to eat breakfast on! The owners thoughtfully provide muffins, bagels, yogurt and cream cheese and coffee beans so you have fresh ground coffee every morning! We would have like a small bottle of milk for that coffee - had to send my husband out in search of a grocery store to get some! If you want more of a breakfast there are several bakeries and diners within walking distance. We were delighted to find a nice bottle of red waiting for us! This place is definitely a long walk to the commercial district, but there is plenty of parking in that area, should you want to drive as well as a free public bus shuttle that stops a few blocks away. There are also some very fine dining options within a five minute walk. My only "needs improvement" comment is the dripping shower head.

loved the little garden - genteelly overgrown and lush! There is even a wee "headstone" - perhaps a long dead former resident. Could there be a ghost?!

Thoughtful, sophisticated, homey touch - feels like a pied a terre

Excellent stay in the loft in February 2018. Keith was friendly, welcoming, knowledgable and helpful. Entire experience feels like an upscale, thoughtful pied a tere - furthest thing from a generic hotel experience. Location south of Forsyth Park was perfect - quiet and residential but an easy walk to the park and further north to the historic district.

Right from the start James was friendly and hospitable, showing us nearby restaurants and places to go and things to see. A welcome bottle of wine, snacks and water/juice in the fridge...a cozy and spacious loft floor...nice firm bed...Great location. 25 min walk toward River st through center of town and historical sites, beautiful architecture, friendly people. We immediately fell in love with the Galloway House Inn.

Keith greeted me, showed me around and provided a wealth of information and recommendations, all of which turned out to be perfect. The property is gorgeous and very comfortable. No detail has been overlooked, even details I didn't know I wanted. The wine and wine gasses were the perfect start to our stay in Savannah. Fresh coffee beans and bagels, muffins, and yogurt were all provided. We were so comfortable, we truly didn't want to leave. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and in the yard.

Excellent home away from home!

Could not have been happier with this choice. The place is immaculate and the innkeepers have left no detail overlooked. Not only did Jim supply us with a wealth of information upon our arrival but an excellent bottle of wine was waiting for us on our kitchen counter. We also really appreciated the AMAZING muffins, bagels and breakfast bars supplied in our room, along with bottled water, juice, yogurt and fresh ground coffee. All available when we rolled out of bed. No need to get presentable and report to a common area. (Much appreciated after a late night on the town!) We stayed in the Loft. Don't let the steps scare you...the view is worth it!

Might just be a hidden gem

To start, I contacted Jim 48 hours before check in, as requested in the booking. He answered the phone warmly and had no problems answering any question I had. As the owner lives on the property, he actually greeted us at the front door. He gave a short list of places to eat that were local spots (not tourist spots). He also made sure to give us a small tour of the room we rented and the garden. The fridge was stocked with water, we were greeted with fresh bagels and muffins in the room for breakfast, coffee and tea, and a small basket of little snacks. Jim could not have been nicer, and I hope that this will not be my last trip to Savannah, nor my last stay at Galloway House.

As for our room, which was the upstairs carriage house, the living room I a beautiful red ochre with a nice soft moss green bedroom. The apartment had two window air units that kept the place a nice temperature. The furniture and other decor are so well done it felt downright homey.

Historic Charm

If you are the type of traveler that wants to truly experience the culture of a city, the Galloway House is a perfect place to stay in Savannah, GA.

My husband and I arrived to the historic home and were met by Jim, the owner, who welcomed us and gave us a great overview of the area and how to get to the best restaurants and historic sights. We followed his advice throughout our trip, and it was one of the best vacations we have ever had.

One block over from the house is a great coffee shop/cafe where locals frequent. We jogged and walked each morning from the house, which is directly lined up with the town squares, parks, and historic sights. We didn't need our car at all which was very convenient.

Staying on the top floor of the Galloway was private and perfect for us. There are stairs that lead to this cozy loft, but we didn't mind at all. Our place was clean, comfortable, and loaded with creature comforts at no additional charge. After long days "touristing" about, coming back to a cool, homey environment was wonderful.

The bed was so comfortable and room so quiet, we were well rested for our Savannah adventures!

The hosts are unintrusive and gave us privacy, which is what we like. Perfect place for a getaway!

Galloway house was our home away from home.

We were searching for a last-minute trip to Savannah for a memorial day weekend and by luck we happened upon a room at the Galloway House Booking online was easy and we received an email shortly after about check in. We were on our way Saturday when we received a text message welcoming us. We said we would be early and Jim said the room was ready and to text him 5 minutes before arrival and he would meet us at the door. We pulled up to a very beautiful and large plantation house. As we walked up to the door Jim stepped out and introduced himself welcoming us to his city. He was very knowledgeable with any questions we had for him and many of the great places to eat. He then took us through the garden to our room.

The garden is not huge but property in the city is very limited, however it did feel very private and it was a beautiful setting. Our room was great. It was very clean and charming with a welcoming and warm feeling. It was much nicer than any hotel room and made us more comfortable. They had redone the room well but left many of the old feeling to the room. The original wood flooring, the wood framing around the doors. Just some of the little things we noticed that gave it a vintage feel.

The kitchen was like new and the bed and furniture was all very comfortable. I guess some people like modern and new but this suited us much better. The fridge was stocked with cold bottle water and orange juice. The muffins and bagels were delicious and great not to ruin an appetite for all the great food Savannah has to offer. The house is located far enough away from city center to be out of the busy streets but not so far it was inconvenient. Jim contacted us each day to make sure we did not need for anything and was always available to answer a question. Thank you Jim for the personnel attention.

We had a great stay and would recommend this place for anyone who wants to spend time in a beautiful historic home.

We will be back on our next trip to Savannah.

The Galloway House was exactly what I was looking for with our first visit to Savannah. I

t has been restored beautifully and very convenient for walks to the river front - even for someone recovering from a broken leg!

The owners missed nothing when it came to outfitting the room - we had everything we needed for breakfast - snacks and waters for our days out sightseeing and a bottle of wine for an evening of relaxing on the porch.

Jim's recommendations for places to eat were spot on and added to our time in Savannah

We loved our stay in the darling carriage house.

Very comfortable and cozy. The main house is beautiful and the front porch was very relaxing. The shuttle picked us up and took us right to the tour trolley area. Nearby restaurants, recommended by Jim, were perfect. They are pet friendly as well, although we did not bring our dogs! We did, however, enjoy their dogs...Great Danes!! (We have Great Danes as well.) We enjoyed our time in Savannah very much and plan to return and stay at the Galloway house again!

A beautiful stay in Savannah

We loved our stay at The Galloway House. Jim, our host, was there to greet us and provide information on the surrounding area. Better than home

Having our own apartment for ourselves and our dogs in an antique house with all amenities and comforts was such a delight for our anniversary. The hosts were really helpful with suggestions of things to do and places to eat. We felt like we were from Savannah rather than just visiting it. Kitchen setup was grand and hanging out in the garden or sitting on the front porch added to our sense that we belonged there. Can't wait to go back.

We have stayed at The Galloway five times now and we absolutely love it. Jim and Keith have created such a perfect place to stay in the city. Southern Charm

We were totally charmed from the moment we pulled up to the house. Jim welcomed us and was available during our stay with wonderful recommendations for dining. There were two couples in our group and we stayed in the Remington apartment (2 bedrooms, 2 baths) and found we had everything we needed for our stay. Sitting on the porch in the early evening with glasses of wine our hosts had thoughtfully provided was only one of many highlights. There were several great restaurant choices within a short walk from the house, and navigating around town was very easy from this location. We'd love to stay again.

I met a friend at the Galloway House Inn for a weekend trip to explore the historic district of Savannah.

Look No Further!

Look no further because I can not imagine a better spot to stay in Savannah. Jim and Keith do their best to give you the privacy of your own apartment with the hospitality of a bed and breakfast.

The second floor apartment of the carriage house was perfect for the two of us. It felt historic and cozy. Jim met us upon arrival and gave us a thorough overview of the area and restaurants along with several maps and guide books. As advised we dined at the Cotton & Rye restaurant in the neighborhood. It was fantastic! A must. The river and all the downtown restaurants and shops are about a mile away but if you stroll down Bull St from the Galloway you will pass through a series of the beautiful squares Savannah is known for.

We will certainly return to Savannah and when we do we will definitely stay with Jim and Keith again!

GREAT INN SAVANNAH

Visited the Galloway House Inn for two nights. Took the Remington Suite as it had two bedrooms - one with king and one with queen.

House is delightful with all amenities that one might like but not expect. Suite comes with Living Room, Outside porch, inside garden room, 12 place dining room, kitchen, two bedrooms and two baths. Stay was excellent and services by Jim and Keith are above and beyond expectations. The only negatives are its location and parking. The Inn sits 1.6 miles from the river. It is also by a college and parking is limited during the day. One of these negatives turns into a positive at night. We have been to Savannah several times and stay on Jones street most of the time. It was great in the evening having a vehicle to return to hotel due to the long walk back to the B&B's. I would certainly recommend this inn and I will return for another stay.

What a wonderfully relaxing weekend!

I was looking for a place to host my adopted Grandmother's birthday dinner, relax and get away with my dad, sister and dog and stumbled upon the Galloway House. What a blessing! It was a perfect location to host dinner guests, sleep in a cozy, comfy bed, have coffee and breakfast on the beautiful front porch and watch a movie with my dad and sister and have my Shy doggy with me too. The Remington apartment exceeded my expectations and Jim & Keith were helpful as well as very welcoming. Their Danes are beautiful (big)! Our weekend was pretty packed with family events so we didn't act like typical Savannah tourists, however, Jim gave us the low down on the neighborhood and made several recommendations. Perfect and Pet Friendly

This property is amazing. Although it's not really walking distance to the river, it's close enough to get anywhere in Savannah within a few minutes. Enchanting Inn!

My husband, daughter and I stayed in the second floor apartment for three nights. We absolutely loved our stay. The owners, Jim and Keith, were so accommodating! If they had what we needed, they were more than happy to allow us to borrow it. Their housekeeper, Patty, was quite lovely. No need to look further for a place to stay!

I needed a nice peaceful place to stay and this was it. Jim is so nice and explained everything to me. That meant so much to me since it was my first time in Savannah and I was alone. He told me the right places to go and gave me some great advice. I felt very comfortable. I stayed in the top loft apartment. It was immaculate and had everything anyone would need. I loved that they had muffins, yogurt, fresh coffee beans, lot's of bottled water and juice. I didn't have to go out for breakfast. What made the ambiance even more exciting was the fact that it could seem spooky. Lot's of little doorways in that top floor apt. After all Savannah is known to be very haunted. Loved it!!! I will be back.

Wow!

We had a great stay at The Galloway House. This was our first inn stay. The house, and the grounds are beautiful.

Jim has, in my opinion exceeded all my expectations for what a innis/should be. When we arrived, Jim met us at the door and explained parking, and showed us to our apartment. The apartment was well appointment and fully stocked by the owners.

After giving us the keys, Jim showed us the collections of maps, guides and points of interest both near and not so near the B & B. Jim pointed out the local restaurants/coffee shops, park next door, and general orientation to the area.

The apartment was furnished with all the necessary gadgets. There were fresh coffee beans, grinder and brewer. The fridge was stocked with juice, yogurt, cream cheese and ice cold bottled water. Treats on the counters include a bottle of wine, bagels, muffins, granola bars, and other breakfast treats, plus a nice bottle of wine. They even thought to include to-go coffee cups. (The food and coffee were a great money saver for us.) We really enjoyed the privacy of having breakfast in our apartment as opposed to a common area.

The master bedroom had a four poster bed which we slept on quite well after a day of sightseeing with our daughter and two dachshunds in tow.

The living room was nice with a chair and couch, an Insta-Bed, and a great TV. There was an impressive collection of Savannah related books, a few movies, and post cards. The welcome folder included many maps, several brochures, and pictures of the Galloway house restoration.

We were very comfortable with our accommodations, and pleased with the kitchen which saved us quite a bit of money. As the house is so close to the historic district, the location is great. We could have walked to the historic district, but chose to drive instead as we were not used to the humidity.

Word of advice-before you go out to buy something-check to see if it's stocked in the apartment. We needed to get some tape for my husbands CPAP machine (as he left a part of it at home). We were on the way out to the door to go to a store to grab some when I happened to open a drawer and found a roll of masking tape provided by the inn. Sweet!

As a final note, we were also requested to ask for absolutely anything we might need and took them up on it when we extended our stay for a third night and ran out of snacks. These were promptly delivered to our door :-)

The Galloway House did a great job of welcoming us to Savannah and spoiling us with their accommodations and provisions.

They nailed it and made our trip to Savannah great!

Stop! Stop your search -- you're there.

As my title suggests, you can stop looking for the right place to stay during your visit to Savannah. This is it, no matter what you're looking for in and inn.

The Galloway House, a gorgeous, historic Savannah home lovingly restored to perfection not too many years ago (I forget exactly when) offers beauty, comfort and convenience in every way -- including its location not far from very much of what you want to see (and where you want to eat) in this city. We stayed in the second floor of the carriage house, but got to see the other areas (the entire first floor of the home as well as the ground floor of the carriage house) and they all are immaculate, beautiful and evocative of what it must have been like to be in Savannah "back in the day." We loved the fact that our carriage house was furnished with little snacks, a wonderful bottle of wine, fresh coffee to brew, juice, drinks, pastries and everything we needed to pull together a wonderful breakfast (or lunch or late-night snack) of our choosing. And our host Jim couldn't have been more helpful (he was even there to greet us when circumstances kept us from arriving until late), knowledgable . . . and just pleasant. We always had a place to park behind the home, and loved relaxing on the broad, beautiful porch out front.

Pricing was very reasonable and VERY much worth it. We couldn't have had a better "home" in a great city. (Stayed for three days.)

A beautiful place to escape too

The owners, Jim and Keith, were wonderful, kind and helpful. They have made a warm, comfortable and cozy place to stay. A home away from home. Very close to all the excitement of the historic district, and far enough away where you are not caught up in all the "tourist" traps. I loved that they provide information on tours, places to visit, as well as places to eat. Was more than satisfied with our stay there, will definitely stay there again!

Weekend Getaway

This house is gorgeous. We were in the 2-br main floor apt. Charm was oozing. Loved the décor, front porch to die for and the garden was just wonderful. The Inn Keepers were on site but not seen much, but knowing they were there if we needed them was great.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Galloway House Inn!

The most enjoyable part of our visit was sitting on the beautiful front porch having wine and cocktails in the evening. Tree lined street and warm breeze just added to our pleasure. Also Jim and Keith were so accommodating. Special thanks to Jim for taking care of us. All of their recommendations for restaurants(all within walking distance) were spot on. We did go downtown and the Savannah Trolley picked us up at Galloway house, awesome. enjoyed downtown but really loved coming back "Home" in the evening. Stayed on 1st floor carriage house which sits in the amazing garden. Awesome accommodations in the neighborhood which made our Savannah experience complete.

Family Reunion made Perfect by Hosts

Our small family gathered in Savannah for a reunion recently! We stayed in the large 2 bedroom apartment at the Galloway House and it was perfect. We were 4 adults and we had plenty of space and fun. The modern kitchen was stocked with coffee beans, bagels and muffins. We brought the rest. Bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms well laid out. The big front porch provided space to share a glass of wine and the dining room was a great place to have breakfast and use the wifi. We also walked to the river and all over Savannah. And our hosts recommended restaurants that were near by and, therefore, also easy to walk to.

Feels like coming home at the end of a long day, except way nicer!

My favorite thing about visiting Savannah was our inn. I felt like I was home, except that it was way nicer and way cleaner than my home ever is. (I literally woke up in the middle of the night thinking, I MUST ask what their laundry detergent is!) It was a comfort knowing that at the end of a long day of site seeing and restaurant eating that we had a cozy home base to come to. There were days that I secretly wanted to stay in all day on the couch in a controlled temperature and watch tv.

The inn is located in my favorite part of town. Savannah is pretty small so you'll be close to all parts of it's town from the Galloway house, but it is in a part that has really flourished in the past several years. A few good restaurants, cafes, and artsy spots. You get to see what the locals do, and the Savannah locals are awesome. Lots of artsy, creative, active folks.

The house is beautifully restored and the courtyard is an impressive jungle all year round. If you're lucky you'll catch a sight of their beautiful regal rescued Great Danes galloping about. Don't worry, they are well behaved and they love visitors. Just like Keith and Jim.

Keith and Jim are extremely knowledgeable about the area and outlying areas. They know Savannah's best and worst, and safest and seediest. There is a list of suggestions for things to do while in Savannah, in case you're flying by the seat of your pants and have made no plans. But you can also ask Keith and Jim anything. It's like talking to old friends. Except they're way nicer to you than your friends will ever be.

Everything was perfect. I cannot say enough about the Galloway house. I wouldn't hesitate to use the word Amazing and I wish there were more stars I could give it.

Beautifully restored home

We stayed for a weekend in January. Too bad it was colder outside and we couldn't fully enjoy the large front porch or sun room from the first floor main house 2 bedroom apartment. The owners, Jim and Keith, have furnished the unit with lovely furniture and artwork, and they were always available to answer any questions. We will definitely come back in warmer weather. The hosts provide all the bagels, muffins, coffee, juice, bottled water, and granola bars you could need.

Wish we could stay longer!

An amazing place!

We stayed on the first floor carriage house and we couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The garden was beautiful, the room was immaculate, the snacks were scrumptious, and the list can go on. After searching for dog friendly places in the area to celebrate my birthday, we chose to stay at the Galloway House due to the friendly service on the phone and the very reasonable prices. We are so glad we did! Upon arrival, Jim came out (in the rain!) to help us settle in. He gave us a ton of recommendations in the area (all on point), was extremely accommodating, and accessible by phone. The Galloway House made our first trip to Savannah very memorable. If you ever need a place to stay in Savannah, there is no other place except the Galloway House!

Perfect Fit

We were so glad we chose The Galloway House for our week long visit to Savannah and would recommend it to anyone seeking above-the-ordinary accommodations. We stayed in the 2nd floor carriage house unit and found it to be exactly to our liking. Thank you to our hosts for thinking of everything and being great resources!

Lovely Inn

We stayed in the first floor 2 bedroom apartment in the main house. The beautifully decorated property is well maintained and spotlessly clean. Keith did a wonderful job ensuring we had everything we needed. The owners' two Great Danes - Buddy and Puppet - added a fun dimension to our visit. The house wasn't as close to the Historic District as we might have liked; however, we never had trouble finding parking in one of the many parking garages in the historic shopping district.

Perfect - should have stayed longer!!!!

4 of us stayed at the Galloway house in early August for 3 nights and had an absolutely wonderful time. The owners recommendations for restaurants and places to visit were "spot on" We really loved the spacious accomodation (we had the entire main floor) - comfortable beds, lovely bathrooms, and that southern porch to watch the world go by. Thank you to the owners for putting out the Canadian flag. We felt very welcome, and really had a nice time.

Neighborhood Gem!

My wife and I spent a wonderful 4 days at The Galloway House. We were welcomed immediately by the housekeeper who gave us a complete rundown on the property, local restaurants, and Savannah landmarks. We stayed in the first floor apartment of the carriage house and it was perfect for our needs. The room was well appointed, comfortable and had a fully functional kitchen. A continental style breakfast was provided and the coffee was excellent. On our first evening we enjoyed the complimentary bottle of wine before dining out. The location was away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist traffic but walking distance to the city center. The local restaurants were a real treat (Elizabeth on 37th, Leoci's Trattoria and Local 11ten all recommended.)

We will be back to The Galloway House on our next trip to Savannah.

Honeymoon perfection

As newlyweds, my wife and I decided to do Savannah for our honeymoon. Jim and Keith are so hospitable stocking the loft where we stayed with everything you could think of for an effortless and memorable weekend getaway just minutes from everything Savannah has to offer. We felt like we had perfect privacy with the comfort of knowing that we had wonderful hosts available if we needed them for anything. 10/10 would recommend the Galloway House to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.

Wonderful!!!!!

My boyfriend and I spent the weekend with some friends from out of town at this lovely little gem. It was beautifully furnished, comfy, clean, and Jim and Keith were very hospitable. We stayed on the first floor of the main house, which is 1.6 miles from the river walk. The fridge was stocked with plenty of water, juice, yogurt, and bagels & muffins for breakfast. All in all, we will be staying here again when we return to Savannah and I absolutely recommend staying here.

Romantic Place for our Anniversary

My husband and I stayed first weekend in May with our 2 large dogs on the second floor of the carriage house which is behind the main house. The house itself is gorgeous and the hosts were very accommodating. The carriage house was perfect for our privacy and it provided space for our dogs to be comfortable as well. The house is removed a bit from the hustle of downtown but there is so much to do in the neighborhood that we only ventured downtown once. It is a great walking city and many places are dog friendly. Thank you and we will be back again !

Only the Best!

You want to stay here - the home is lovely, breakfast was just enough, the garden is worthy of sitting in and the location is ideal for your stay in historic Savannah. But here is the most important reason to stay here: Jim and Keith!!!! Before and during our stay they were accommodating and kind and funny and generous and after a terrible travel day to get there, the welcome we received set our vacation right back on track. Best of both worlds

Generally speaking, I'm not a big fan of B&Bs, which often give you the feeling that you're intruding in somebody else's home. But the Galloway house represents the best of both worlds: the greatest features of a bed & breakfast and the best things about a vacation rental. Three girlfriends and I recently stayed at the Galloway House for a getaway weekend. We had the ground floor apartment in the main house and the ground floor unit in the carriage house. Both were beautifully furnished, very clean, well-equipped and well-appointed. I loved having so much space all to ourselves, and in that respect it was very much like staying in a vacation rental. The thoughtful owners provided abundant breakfast items for our stay: breads, muffins, juice, coffee, yogurt, etc. We could have breakfast on our own terms rather than having to eat breakfast on an established timeline. Jim and Keith know Savannah well, and they were a wonderful resource. Their tips and suggestions made our stay all the more fun, interesting and rewarding. They were there when we needed them, without being intrusive. We had a great time, and I would highly recommend the Galloway House!

Wonderful stay

From the moment we walked through the door, we felt we had stepped into historic Charleston. The first floor apartment is beautifully renovated and furnished. Extra touches (including wine) were everywhere. Especially appreciated the ceiling fans. And coffee in the sunroom in the morning was delightful. Beautiful gardens - good places to eat in the neighborhood but also an easy trip to downtown Savannah. Plenty of off-street parking.

Nice, clean apt. Short walk to Forsyth Park, long walk to river front. Everything we needed was stocked, even a washer and dryer in unit. 3 story climb not for the unhealthy or elderly. Home away from home in Savannah

We stayed at Galloway House in mid March on our way home to Ontario. It was a bit of a walk down to the historic district and riverfront and we had a cool drizzly day to do it but it was awesome. Loved the walk through all the various squares and the scenery was amazing. We were staying in the main floor carriage house. It was roomy, very clean and well supplied.

We had a very private entry way through the gardens. All in all a very enjoyable stay and we would definitely stay here on a return visit, which we hope to make another year. We stayed 3 days and there is still a lot to see. Thank you Jim and Keith.

Our wonderful Galloway House Stay!

I made a fairly last minute reservation at the Galloway house. I was traveling with my 18 year old daughter and we decided to make a stop in Savannah. I love the look and feel of the Galloway house. We were in one of the carriage house apartments so we had tons of privacy and our own private entrance.

The garden area leading to our apartment is lovely and I am sure it is absolutely stunning during the growing season.

The apartment is well appointed and the extra touch of a bottle of wine, a fridge with bottled water, juice, cream cheese and butter was wonderful. Jim and Keith normally put bagels and such in the apartment for guests but we asked for fruit instead. They very willingly made the adjustment. Jim and Keith are perfect hosts. They are available if you need them but otherwise leave you alone.

I personally love the location. We were able to walk to the river, it is so pretty. One block up to bull street and head straight to the river. History is abundant and the best way to really get a feel for Savannah is to walk these wonderful streets and have plenty of time to do it. We were also able to rent bikes from Jim and Keith and we had a nice ride. There is no onsite dining but there are plenty of places to eat and breakfast can be had at the apartment.

Awesome stay!

My wife and I stayed at the Galloway House Inn while visiting Savannah while heading to Florida. We booked last minute over the phone with Jim and he couldn't have been more hospitable.

The unit was nicely outfitted and included everything and more you would want while traveling. Between the bottle of wine, fresh muffins, juice and water to the amazing furnishings and comfortable sheets we could have asked for more. But we got more.

Jim and Keith's dinner/food recommendations were fantastic. Not only was the food great (two words grilled olives at Leoci’s Trattoria) but the house is located near Forsythe Park and is great for walking around the historic district.

We will sure be back to stay here every time we are in Savannah. Thanks again Jim and Keith!

Wonderful Experience

My family and I just spent a wonderful weekend in Savannah and chose The Galloway House from the reviews. We were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted by Jim and he showed us the accommodation which was just amazing and comfortable. We talked with Keith several times on the porch and he was warm and full of great suggestions. We even got to meet Puppet and Buddy the 2 Danes!! they are so sweet.

We enjoyed sitting on the porch saying Hi to people passing by. They would compliment us on our beautiful home. We ate at Foxy Loxy Café and Elizabeth's on 37th. Just wonderful.

We so enjoyed our will plan to go back again. Family and friends will hear all about it.

Galloway House Inn - Terrific!

My wife regularly stay in Savannah as our daughter has been a graduate student at SCAD for that past couple of years. We have stayed in hotels, and we have stayed in numerous homes that we rented. I can say with confidence that the Galloway House is the best house we have stayed in there. We rented the 1st floor 2 BR apartment in the main house, so with that came access to the amazingly large and comfy front porch. Of course, we were doubly blessed, because while we were there (October 3rd and 4th, 2014), the weather broke and the first really cool Fall nip was in the air. Sky was clear blue, and it was 65 degrees in the morning while sitting and enjoying my orange juice.

The kitchen was really nice, and was well-stocked (included, by the way) with OJ, Coffee, Bagels, Muffins et. al. That was a real convenience. The rest of the house was well-decorated, and the Frederick Remington art pieces were breathtaking. The master had a King bed, and it was soooooo comfortable. Linens were to die for, and I know they take great care to make it that way.

We highly recommend this wonderful home to you and yours when in Savannah. It should also be mentioned that the neighborhood was beautiful, quiet and safe. Also, if you need more room, they have an additional 1 BR apartment on the third floor of the main house and two more 1 BR apartments in the carriage house in the back, but on the same property.

Keith Galloway greeted my wife upon arrival and spent 20 minutes with her and my daughter. He was very personable, and left behind a complimentary bottle of Red Wine to kick off the weekend. Thanks so much Keith for your kind gesture and wonderful hospitality... we'll be back.

Wonderful Inn

We stayed in the first floor suite of the carriage house. I booked this inn because of the reviews. The grounds are gorgeous and the apartment was so comfortable and nice to come back to after sightseeing each day. We cooked in for 2 meals and the kitchen had everything we needed. I called the evening we left to tell Jim I thought I left a very sentimental chain and that it may be on the floor in the bedroom. He found it and is mailing it back to me. Stay at the Galloway House-you won't be disappointed!

The Galloway House is Amazing!

We were doing a road trip and booked the Carriage House Apartment for a night and wished we could have spend at least one more night! The owners are what makes this a great lodging option

Spent a night in the 2 br, 2 bath apartment. Palatially large, well appointed, large kitchen, very pleasant and kind hosts, rightfully proud of this renovated gorgeous home.

Rented their bikes, very nice, new, easy to ride. Also rented two more at Perry's Rubber (what a name!) a mile away.

Easy parking right in front. Location here is a bit away from the parks but easily reachable! We rode the bikes...lots of neighborhood eateries all around.

We stayed for 3 nights while visiting family in Savannah & had such a great time hanging out with Jim & Keith that we'll be back to the Galloway house the very next chance we get.

Don't stay anywhere else!!

The Galloway house was the perfect setting for a get-together with 3 wonderful friends I don't see enough. We stayed in the main house. It was beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Two full bathrooms accomodated us nicely. Morning coffee in pajamas in the sun room was ideal for catching up. Keith and Jim are attentive, genial hosts who spent a lot of time with us to ensure we had places to see and an excellent assortment of places to eat. The location of the Galloway house is perfect- an easy walk to everything. We loved Savannah and it was so much more special because of the Galloway house.

A winner!!! Worth booking!

The Galloway house in simply charming. IWe went to Savannah for the weekend and on the first night stayed in the Galloway house full size one bedroom apartment behind the house in a beautiful garden. When compared to a 5 star hotel, let me say that this was a much much better idea! It was very much worth the cost. The apartment has everything you need and was well kept and very clean. It was stocked with bagels, muffins, juice, waters, coffee, a bottle of red wine and energy bars.. I will be posted photo's as well soon! The kitchen is fully equipped and the bedroom is large. You will need to call Keith when you arrive and he will show you the way and answer all your questions. Once you reach him, the check in process is easy and very personal. He is very laidback and is a very nice person to chat with. The house is historical and is a few blocks from Forsyth park, which is beautiful and one of the unknown benefits of the Galloway house is that they have 2 awesome cruiser bikes (Trek) you can use to bike around Savannah at no charge. We would highly recommend it!! Anyway..the house was more beautiful than most the photo's you see online and the apartment in back is a magnificent unit. My girlfriend is from Brazil and Keith even took the time to fly the flag from Brazil on the Banister during our short stay!

I really think it may be one of the very best choices as for an inn in Savannah.. I can't say enough good things about our one night stay but I think the photo's will also speak to the overall excellence that is Galloway House. 5 Stars! Check out of photo's to see just how awesome the house is!

Birthday weekend on St. Patty's weekend!

I like staying at places other than hotels, so this place after reading the reviews was an obvious choice for us. I celebrated my 49th birthday with hubby in Savannah b/c it's close to where we live and one of my favorite cities! The owners were very accommodating and gracious, When went to the coffee shop (w/in) walking distance and that was a treat b/c the character was awesome! We stayed in the top apartment and as the other guest stated it's a three story walk-up.....it's really not that serious, but if you have health challenges you might want to choose another apartment. We enjoyed our stay, especially the bike rentals..had a blast biking around the city. I hate I didn't get to pet the Danes though, but we had a fun filled weekend and I would definelty stay there again. Oh, I detest Chardonnay ( it was in the fridege) of course that is a personal preference and forgot to bring my Riesling :-(, but my husband loved the coffee and the muffins. P. S. the DVD player worked fine, I watched the movie again, but hubby fell asleep. Thanks guys, Karen and Eric.

Lovely place

Travelling alone I feel sort of "homeless". But the moment I stepped into Galloway House's 2nd floor carriage house apartment I felt at home. Everything seemed to be exactly where it should be. A real kitchen. Bagels, muffins, juice, fresh ground coffee--all right there. Fresh flowers. The perfect bed, the softest linens. A good shower and thirsty towels. Just go. Walk through the squares to Mercer House. Have lunch al fresco. I stayed 2 nights and really didn't want to leave.

Beautiful house! Gracious hosts!

I booked the 1st floor apartment (2 bedroom, 2 baths) for a long weekend with my family. It was perfect! The house is charming, beautiful and well decorated. It fulfilled the "Southern Charm" quality I was looking for. There was plenty of space and a beautiful sunroom! The beds were SUPER comfortable (the best sleep all of us had in a while) and the location is perfect. being dog friendly made it super convenient and the owners are so nice and accommodating. The BEST Place to Stay in Savannah!

I had the honor of staying at the Galloway House Inn. We were only in Savannah for one night (0n short notice), they have a 2 night min for the house, but I called and asked if it was OK to just stay a night. Jim was so nice and said sure, no problem. When we arrived we were met at the door and taken to our room. It was on the third floor of the main house. When I walked in I could not believe how beautiful it was. Everything has been thought of. Food, drinks, coffee, treats..wine....it was unbelievable. Books, information on Savannah, even a washer and dryer!! We asked about places to eat and were told about a wonderful Italian restaurant within walking distance. It was so good!!! I have been to Savannah before, and I now realize that it is the place you stay which makes or breaks the trip. The Galloway house made our trip. Sitting on the porch, drinking wine, and watching the world go by. Keith came out and told us the history of the house. This is a magic place. I want to go back to Savannah just to spend more time at the bed and breakfast!!! Do yourself a favor, and stay here. You'll be glad you did!

Privacy in a Beautifully Restored Mansion

We enjoyed three peaceful nights at the Galloway House in the 2nd floor apartment in the Carriage House. Jim and Keith have lovingly restored this wonderful old home in Savannah and it was fascinating to see the "before" pictures left in the apartment. Our unit featured a king size bed, which was super comfortable and outfitted with wonderful linens. Their sense of style and good taste was evident throughout. As others have noted, the bathroom in this apartment is petite but the towels were of very high quality, as were the amenities. Jim and Keith leave a generous supply of bottled water and orange juice in the refrigerator, along with a basket full of snacks. The breakfast items consisted of muffins and bagels and plenty of coffee ready to brew at the time of your choosing. These are not our favorite breakfast items so we supplemented them wit eggs--a huge benefit of having a small kitchen. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Galloway House and in the beautiful city of Savannah and would certainly return here again!

Home away from home

Had a great 3 night stay recently at the Galloway house. The room was very spacious and homey. We were welcomed to a nice bottle of wine, a stocked fridge, and kitchen amenities. Jim was very welcoming and helpful in things to do in savannah. The bed was super comfortable and it was hard to get out of bed because of how cozy the place was. It is dog friendly and you may see Jim and Keith's adorable Great Danes puppet and buddy. You're within walking distance to Forsyth park. River street is about 1.5 miles away. Incredible Stay at the Galloway house

This is THE MOST AMAZING inn I have ever experienced. You enter and instantly feel at home.

The property is mind blowing, the building is beautiful, the furniture is absolutely stunning, the couches are incredibly comfortable …. the beds are incredible.

The kitchen is stocked which makes it easy to relax straight away.

The sun room is the most relaxing little area and is perfect to spot squirrels playing in the garden.

Better than home!!

We had the fortunate occurrence to luck into staying at this fabulous accommodation on our vacation this last October. We were traveling with no reservations and after seeing on Yelp the glowing review of Galloway House we called to see if we could reserve their small carriage house apartment. I spoke with Jim- he indicated that the small apartment wasn't available, but we could stay in the two bedroom downstairs of the main house. WOW! We pull up in front of this gracious home with it's sweeping covered front porch, beautiful columns, lush gardens-what a presence!. Jim came out to meet us and ushered us into this incredible hardwood floored, oriental carpeted, 14 foot ceilinged, antique and comfy couch haven that would be all ours for the next two days!!! Did I mention the chandelier over the highly polished mahogany dining table and beautiful art and sculptures throughout the property? He shared ideas of good restaurants in the area, good places to find parking (SOOO important), sights we might want to see and then departed. Our kitchen was stocked with breakfast goodies, and there was a chilled bottle of good wine they provided for our lazy afternoons on the veranda. It was all immaculate to top it off. Like I said, it was better than home!! P.S. Very reasonable too!

It is a lovely home!

When we first saw the house, we were utterly charmed. Our apartment was fully stocked and tastefully decorated. The welcoming bottle of wine was the finishing touch. Keith and Jim have excellent taste and it shows in everything. We originally selected the place for its location and the fact that it is pet friendly, but the reality went far beyond anything we had expected.

There is no doubt that we will return and we have suggested it to our friends.

The bed was comfy and the linens were top grade. I am certain all the electronics worked, but we were there for the peace and quiet, and it was all we could have hoped for. Not being the traditional B&B, with breakfast served the a communal dining room was a plus for us. Our dog could not have joined us in the dining room, and we don't like a schedule while we are on vacation.

The best-rated seafood shop is a short walk and we really enjoyed having the full kitchen to make our own meals. Dining out in Savannah is glorious, but it gets expensive. We like having a choice. After along day, there is nothing like a hot shower, slippers, and some wine to aid in whipping up a meal that you don't have to drive home from.

Look no further-this is the best!

Great Location

I was originally traveling solo to participate in the Savannah marathon so rented the smallest, 3rd floor walk-up apartment. My husband was able to join me on short notice, and the apartment was suitable for us both: with the partition, we could both have a private space to read or watch TV. The large room under the roof was comfortable, with beautiful bedding and a great pillowed window seat. The location was perfect for marathoners - a warm-up walk to start line of about 1 1/4 miles in the morning, 5 short blocks back from the Forsyth Park finish line afterwards. Had some troubles "crawling" up three flights of steps after the race on my tired legs - did not think that through when making reservations. Savannah is gorgeous and the weather and location unbeatable, the squares and the waterfront are fabulous, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is stunning.

We had a fabulous weekend, I successfully finished my race, we had good food and a carbo-loading beer (or two), some outstanding chocolate and saw some beautiful sites.

Awesome!

Keith and Jim, The owners, are so friendly and accommodating.

The apartment downstairs is absolutely beautiful! Our favorite was the giant dining room where we could have meals instead of eating out. Fully stocked kitchen, clean everything, and perfect Southern charm!

We could not have asked for a better place!!

Beautiful, accommodating and relaxing

We had a family reunion for a long weekend at the Galloway House and felt like it was our home. Jim & Keith made sure we were well cared for and our stay was comfortable. All the apartments were beautiful, charming, clean and well equipped. The main house first floor has an open layout with a spacious living room and dining room that afforded our family a place to gather and easily talk with each other. The large, wrap around porch was also a good conversational spot. We occupied all four apartments and each had their own charm and tasteful decor. As an aside, we also enjoyed the many books across a wide range of topics in the apartments -- a mini library in fact.

Would highly recommend the Galloway House for any occasion!

Absolutely Perfect!

The accommodations are beautiful, comfortable, and immaculate.

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment on the ground floor with complete kitchen, dining room, living room two beautiful bedrooms, and sunroom. We did have coffee and rolls, but mostly ate out (Savannah is too good to miss!). It was perfect for a girls' reunion.

Private, comfortable, and spacious!

Beautiful...Welcoming...Comfortable

My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Galloway House. It really wasn't simply a room - it was our home for a few days. Jim & Keith keep a wonderful home and their gardens are amazing. I couldn't get over how lush everything was! They are in a great location, have wonderful recommendations for restaurants and activities and truly go out of their way to make sure that their guest feel at home. Next time we head to Savannah, we will be sure to stay at the Galloway House again.

The Galloway House Inn

We were thrilled when we arrived at The Galloway House. It was even better than we could have imagined. We stayed in the lower carriage house. It was so charming and decorated very nicely. It was so nice to have a separate kitchen, living room, and bedroom plus a nice bathroom.

The garden area was like one I have seen in magazines. We ate dinner at Katherine's Place as suggested by Jim. The food was delicious and the restaurant was first-class. Jim brought us wine and flowers which was a nice touch. We would highly recommend The Galloway House Inn for a vacation in Savannah. Thanks to Keith and Jim for this lovely place to stay.

3rd Visit and Planning Our 4th, I can't overstate this: we adore the Galloway House Inn!

If I could live there, I would. About 4 years ago, I went for the first time with some girlfriends and stayed in the carriage house (so pretty and cozy). I loved it so much that my husband and I went to Savannah for our Honeymoon and stayed on the 3rd floor. We just recently got back from another trip, and we loved it just as much the third time around!

The place is a big beautiful plantation-style home with a wide, gorgeous porch on the front. For a couple like ourselves, the carriage house apartments or the 3rd floor in the main house are perfect for a getaway. First floor was perfect for family of ours that came into town with us. The whole place is tastefully decorated (but not obnoxiously so - they've taken care to let the original details of the home stand out) and this place feels more like a home away from home every time we go!

We always appreciate how clean and fresh everything is when we arrive. The bed is always big and comfortable with fresh crisp linens, and the bathroom was spotless with big fluffy towels to wrap up in after a shower. We love the little touches they add - fresh flowers, historic pictures, a great selection of Savannah travel books in addition to a binder full of useful information on the area. We also love the breakfast provided in our kitchen - fresh bagels, muffins, cream cheese, orange juice, and plenty of bottled water (plus a bottle of wine chilled and ready for our arrival!). The 3rd floor apartment is bright, cozy, and absolutely dreamy. I spent a few mornings sitting in the big beautiful window seat overlooking Savannah with a cup of coffee and a good book.

Jim and Keith have never steered us wrong on restaurant recommendations - definitely try Foxy Loxy if you stay at the Galloway House: it's less than a block away, and is not to be missed with plenty of great locally sourced ingredients in imaginative dishes, and fun local brews! Jim and Keith also steered us toward Vic's On The River when we stayed at Galloway House on our honeymoon, and it's one of our favorite restaurants to this day.

If you're looking for a place in Savannah, look no further. It's a fraction of the price of other 'historic' inns, with a much more laid back feel. It's just a minute or two from the downtown area, so it's close enough to get to the fun places downtown off Broughton and Bay streets, as well as the fun spots down on River street. It's far enough away, though, that you can really enjoy the quiet more laid-back aspects of Savannah.

Jim and Keith also have two big beautiful (and super-friendly) Great Danes that add a lot of charm to the Galloway House Inn.

Luxurious and Welcoming

By far the best inn I have ever stayed in. On arrival, we received a warm welcome and all the information we would need for our two days in Savannah (thank you, Jim). We followed up on as many of the suggestions as we could fit in, and enjoyed each of them.

The accommodation itself is superior (in my opinion) because you are in your own space. Not only do you get two bedrooms (1x king and 1x queen), but this is an entire apartment to yourself, which for two friends travelling together was plenty space. Kitchen is well stocked; Jim and Keith had also laid out delicious muffins and bagels for breakfast. Beds incredibly comfortable. Only small issue I would raise is the rooms are rather light at night, as the outside lights remain on, and the blinds don't completely block out the light; but if you are not a light sleeper, this shouldn't worry you.

The house is also within walking distance of the historic squares. It is only a couple of blocks from Forsyth Park. There restaurants close by (Elizabeths n 37th; Betty Bombers; Butterhead Greens Cafe)...and I am sure there are others, these are the ones we walked past/to.

The addition of the flag on the balcony was a lovely touch.

All in all I wholeheartedly recommend Galloway House to anyone visiting Savannah, and the surrounds.

A home – not just a room!

Loved my 3 night stay in the third floor apartment of The Galloway House in September, 2013. The purpose of my trip to Savannah was to get my son settled at SCAD for graduate school. We had a lot to do getting his apartment ready, so it was WONDERFUL to come 'home' at night to these wonderful accommodations. Everything I could have wanted was at hand in the apartment. Should I return for a visit.....I already know where I'll be staying!

Southern Hospitality at its best

My friend and I stayed here in June, 2013 for a long weekend. The house has been beautifully restored and furnished. We stayed on the first floor which had two bedrooms, two baths, full kitchen and dining space and a living room with a fireplace. Our hosts were so gracious and the fridge was stocked with water and juice and we had a lovely continental breakfast each morning to start our day. The house is not real close to the downtown area attractions, but we did not mind. We just parked downtown as the meters are free on the weekends.

I would highly recommend!

First timer

My wife and I were traveling around the USA and decided to head to Savannah. After doing some research on the Internet we decided to try a inn for the first time.

Our stay at Galloway house cold not have been a better introduction to inn, with Keith and Jim being great hosts.

Loved the house, loved all the little things they thought of and most of all love the dogs!

Amazing Historic Getaway!

I stayed here for a weekend birthday getaway this past June and was blown away by the area, the property, the top floor apartment, and the hospitality of Keith and Jim. This laid back version of a inn (ready made breakfasts in a stocked kitchen) allows you to come and go at your leisure in the mornings without the required schedule of a traditional B&B.

My favorite part of the entire property is the courtyard / garden. I felt like I was in an English Victorian garden surrounded by beautiful landscapes and sculptures. Hands down the best place I've ever stayed in Savannah, and elsewhere for that matter. I won't stay anywhere else when I return. Thanks for a wonderful trip!

Make Savannah your home for a few days

We stayed in the two bedroom apartment in the main house with our teenage daughters and simply felt like we stayed in our home rather than an inn. Beautifully furnished, nice kitchen if you wish to cook and dine in this special place, great atmosphere, super clean and fully independent with the breakfast goodies stacked in the kitchen. We simply loved the place, the owner and the great danes!

By far the best way to vacation!!!

The accommodations at the Galloway House were outstanding! The owners of this inn have an amazing concept. We stayed in the carriage house 1 bedroom apartment. There is so much to see and do in savannah and the hosts will give you tons of information about the area. If you are looking for a place to stay and not have to worry about adjusting your schedule around breakfast and housekeeping staff this is the place to stay.

We hope to return again soon!!!!

We hope to return again and again!

My boyfriend and I both got off work at the last minute and decided we wanted to visit Savannah (by last minute I mean we booked four days ahead of time). I found The Galloway House Inn while searching for a place that would allow my very large dog. After reading the website and reviews I was sold!

It was super easy to check for availability and book online. We stayed in Carriage House. We had our very own apartment that was the perfect size. Keith and Jim have done an excellent job with the details of the home: Galloway House postcards that they stamp and mail for you, the softest bedding, Savannah to-do/eat guides they personally put together...just to name a few.

The location was perfect. We walked daily in Forsyth Park. Jim suggested Foxy Loxy, and we went literally every single night for a treat (such a short walk). Jim got us checked in, showed us around, and told us his favorite places in Savannah. The owners were great about letting the guests just do their thing and were not overbearing like some inn owners I've encountered. We felt right at home at The Galloway House and cannot wait to return again and again.

Thanks Jim and Keith, you've done a wonderful job!

Exceptional In Every Way!

My husband and I just returned from three days and two nights at The Galloway and I can't imagine a better way to experience Savannah. The house has been restored with an emphasis on perfection that is rarely seen, and our suite was beautifully appointed, clean, fresh and comfortable in every way: soundproof, comfy bed, perfect temperature, big tv in the living room for my husband while I could read in the quiet of the four-poster bed.

On our arrival, we found a bottle of excellent wine, coffee, yogurt and pastry. There was a bookshelf full of Savannah-related books and a folder full of entertainment and dining suggestions. The next day, we took the house bicycles for a tour of the beautiful (flat!) city.

The hosts are clearly the sort of people who are meant to operate a inn: welcoming and friendly but also genuinely enthusiastic about sharing their lovely town with visitors. I felt that they took a true interest in making sure we experienced Savannah in the most gracious way possible.

I am absolutely sure that we will visit Savannah and this B & B again, and bring our children, primarily because of our experience at The Galloway.

This home IS Savannah!

Savannah's hidden gem!

My husband and I wanted a nice, quiet place to stay and we were very satisfied! It was nice staying in a place where we didn't have to listen to others passing by our door late at night or to maids with squeaky cleaning carts right outside our door. We loved the gardens, which were reminiscent of an enclosed English garden- something like a secret garden.

We will most definitely return- which should say it all!

Roll out the Red Carpet!

I am very picky about where I and my family or friends stay and research places until they are blue in the face! The Galloway House popped up immediately when I input the required information and no matter where else I looked, I couldn't get this place out of my head. :) Fortunately for me.

My friend and I took my daughter up to start the college visitations that begin before senior year and Savannah was our first stop. The Galloway House sits down in the Victorian District and is absolutely beautiful! We had a nice tour from Keith to our accommodations, which was the ENTIRE 1st floor, and the gorgeous garden out back. The kitchen was stocked with wonderful breakfast items, water (need plenty during the summer!), and two bottles of outstanding wine! The bedrooms were wonderfully comfortable, the air nicely chilled, and the ambience was relaxing and inviting.

We sat out on the veranda one evening and enjoyed the Savannah night sipping wine and contemplating our next move. It was nice and breezy and had a chance to chat with a few other guests. It was fabulous.

Keith and Jim were incredibly cordial, full of ideas of where to go, what to eat, and what not to miss. I had a mishap with my car, and Keith made sure I got it to the dealership to check out before driving home. Southern hospitality at it's best.

Check it out. You won't be sorry. A great find in a great city!

All in the family!

We found a "home away from home" that makes me very happy and the Galloway house offers just that! It's an historic house in Savannah that was carefully restored to offer individual "apartments" to guests.

Located in the heart of the Historic District, The Galloway House is a short walk to Forsyth Park, which offers tremendous room for playing, running, or just lounging on the grass. Additionally, you have a fantastic coffee shop (Sentient Bean), just across the way.

The accommodations were private, clean, and well stocked with granola bars, plenty of water, bagels/muffins, OJ, even yogurt. Keith was diligent to ask if we needed additional supplies, or had additional/other needs he could help with.

We spent each night grabbing dinner from a local, neighborhood eatery...then sitting on the front porch, enjoying the surroundings. Nothing fancy...just right!

If you would like to visit Savannah...I would recommend The Galloway House with confidence! We will be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Galloway House. Keith and Jim were very helpful and accommodating. Great Stay!

The Galloway house is wonderful. My friend and I stayed in the carriage house which was actually an apartment with private bath, living room, fully stocked kitchen. Every detail was perfect. I really couldn't say one thing to our friendly, informative hosts that could be a suggestion on how to make it better.

The gardens were beautiful, the location was great -- quiet and easily accessible to some fine restaurants and a manageable walk to the historic district. Also, very easy access to 80 if you want to venture out of Savannah to the beach (which is only about 15 miles away).

Keith and Jim could not have been more helpful with suggestions on what to do, where to eat, what was worth seeing or not. We will most definitely be staying here again on our next visit to Savannah.

Worth returning to again and again!!!

Not only is the Galloway House a beautiful old mansion, but they pay attention the details. Keith personally welcomes each visitor, making you feel right at home. The rooms are always clean, set up with fresh flowers, a bottle of wine, muffins and bagels. There is always fresh coffee beans to grind, the fridge is stocked with yogurt, juice, water, and cream cheese for the bagels.

The gardens are a delight, as is the large welcoming front porch!

Perfection at the Last Minute!

A bit of spontaneity resulted in this GREAT find in Savannah. My boyfriend & I decided over lunch on Monday that we wanted to go to Savannah tomorrow... so, I went straight to the internet and The Galloway House was the number one pick! It had wonderful reviews like mine and the best find was since it was a last minute booking I saved 35% on the room!

We were in the Carriage House located upstairs in the back of the house and it was perfect. It was a quiet one bedroom, one bathroom, small kitchen with living space. It felt just like home for us. The fridge was stocked with juice, water, yogurt, bagels, granola bars, muffins and WINE! It was so welcoming!

You are less than a 5 minute drive to River Street or City Market and a short walk to Forsythe Park. For traveling to Savannah many times and I normally stay on River Street or on Tybee - this was a nice change of place!

Keith was wonderful and accommodating - we were early checking in and Keith made sure we could get in with no problem. We ate at a few of the recommendations per Keith and I wish we had time to try them all. The Green Truck Pub - DELISH for a YUMMY burger!

I will most certainly return and I will stay at The Galloway House again!

Wonderful get away

My husband and I decided to get away for the weekend and the Galloway House was exactly the place we needed. It was a wonderful and comfortable home away from home. Keith & Jim were wonderful and had great suggestions for new comers like us. I loved the garden in the back. It was beautiful to just sit and relax in. It was the perfect walking distance for us from everywhere because we love to walk around and see the sights. The carriage house was perfect. We even had a fully stocked kitchen we cooked dinner in one night. We will definitely be making a trip like this again very soon! Thank you so much!

Totally comfortable home away from home

This is the perfect spot to set off for exploring Savannah. Although we don't have a dog, we were drawn to Galloway House because of their pet friendly policy and having our own apartment. We stayed on the third floor. The entire apartment is light filled and spacious. There is a cozy window seat overlooking the front street which is an ideal place to read. Keith was very accommodating with our early arrival and we were able to drop off our stuff. His provided recommendations for things to do, Raskins Antiques, and places to eat which were terrific. The fridge was stocked with yogurt, muffins, a welcoming bottle of wine, bagels and juice. We felt both pampered and right at home. The gardens around the house are beautiful and I can imagine delightful to enjoy on a warm evening. The location is near Forsythe Park which is a great place to begin enjoying Savannah.

Exactly what we were looking for.

This was our second time visiting Savannah, and while we didn't want to stay in a regular hotel because there are so many amazing bed and breakfasts in Savannah we didn't want to stay at a traditional inn either.

The Galloway house was exactly what we were looking for. A small apartment for my wife and I to stay (we were on the first floor of the carriage house) and cook our own meals without the mandatory breakfast times of most B&B's. The owners we're incredibly friendly, and even assisted us in finding a safe place to park our bikes in the backyard. The food that was provided was more than enough for our 3 night stay. Enough water for 2 grown adults who were bicycling, orange juice, yogurt, granola bars, and most importantly coffee.

I can't recommend this place enough!

We love this place!

My husband and I have stayed at the Galloway House twice and are in love with everything about it. We have stayed in the carriage house twice (once in the bottom portion, once in the top) and have found both very accomodating. They area of the house is very close to Forsyth Park and the historic district....not to mention SO many yummy places to eat. Jim and Keith even have two bikes vistors can use which is how my husband and I got around Savannah-no need for a car! Jim is very nice and more than willing to give you recommendations for things to do and see.

I love that the house is not around the touristy River and Bay Streets!

Perfect place to stay

We brought our two teenage Grandkids to Savannah and really enjoyed our four night stay at the Galloway House. There was plenty of room to spread out in their first floor apartment . We used the sun room on chilly afternoons but the front porch and back yard were perfect when it warmed up. We are all walkers so distance to the River Street area was not a problem without a car. We did use the free shuttle several times.

Jim and Keith were very helpful and accommodating .

Excited to be traveling without kids, we were looking forward to a luxurious and relaxing stay in Savannah, and we certainly found it. Beautiful historic accommodations in the Victorian district

My wife and I stayed three nights in the third floor apartment which is spacious and quiet. The room, which included a sitting area with TV and DVD, full kitchen, bathroom with shower, and a queen sized memory foam bed was clean and comfortable. Our hosts, Keith and Jim, were very welcoming, helpful, and informative about Savannah. The off-street parking was also convenient. Galloway House is within walking distance of Forsyth Park (we ran into Keith walking his dogs there one day) and Monterey Square (location of the Mercer-Williams house of 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' fame). Several cafe's are within 3-4 blocks and the excellent restaurant, 'Elizabeth on 37th' is a 5 minute walk (helpful after a few "best in America" mint juleps).

Highest recommendation!

Super Inn, the Best in Savannah!

I cannot tell you how fantastic it was. Jim and Keith are fabulous hosts, the apartment was beautifully appointed and exceedingly comfortable, and talk about location, location, location! Restaurants within walking distance, Forsyth Park is close by, easy access to freeways to go elsewhere.

There is a lovely verandah in the front and secluded gardens in the back. The proprietors have even gone so far as to provide bicycles for those who wish to tool about town. The continental breakfast was perfect with muffins, bagels, coffee, tea, cream cheese, orange juice and such - all very fresh.

I ended up having to stay longer than anticipated and Jim and Keith were very helpful not only in finding a way to accommodate me longer, but then in finding an alternate location for me. Unfortunately, they were fully booked, but recommended another option that worked out super well.

You can't ask for more helpful hosts who are truly interested in their guest's comfort.

I will be back!

A friend and I decided to spend a night in Savannah before flying back North. I am SO happy we did! Galloway House has great ambience, a great location, and a great innkeeper!

The apartment was impeccably decorated. Jim provided us with lots of information on the sights and restaurants in the area.

It was very convenient as we had an early morning appointment with a local guide, so we could sleep in, grab a quick bite and go. Galloway House also has one bedroom apartments available in a separate Carriage House.

It has a very lovely courtyard between the main house and the Carriage House, teeming with potted plants, sculpture and other greenery. I have never stayed at a inn where I felt so comfortable and at home.

Lovely place to stay, beautiful garden too!

We came to a dog show in Savannah and stayed at the Galloway house for a weekend. The apartment we stayed in was not the main building, but on the second floor of the guest house. It was very nice, clean, and comfortable. One of the few B&B's where there was enough drawer space!

The garden was beautiful, and the house is just gorgeous from the outside. A huge amount of work was done by the owners to restore it.

Speaking of the owners, they were great. They made sure I had great internet connectivity for work stuff, lent us folding chairs for the dog show, recommended restaurants, and generally were very nice.

A really nice stay!

Our Girlfriends Getaway just spent 4 days there and it was perfect on all levels! The home is gorgeous, the front porch was definitely our fav place to park/eat/drink and laugh!

The gardens around the home are beautifully done. Keith has furnished it with everything one could want right down to "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" for your viewing pleasure.

The Galloway House is the best kept secret in Savannah!

Not only was the apartment we rented fully equipped with everything a vacationer could want, but also a folder filled with local history tidbits, personal recommendations for dining, a nice library selection and movie titles for anyone visiting Savannah. The place was immaculate, spacious and nicely decorated. It was like home away from home. More than enough space for a two people.

A very convenient location to not only the downtown area, riverwalk, but also a PUBLIX grocery as well as numerous dining options. All, excellent choices and reasonably priced.

The gardens surrounding the Galloway House are inspiring to browse through. From the beautiful fountain, birdbaths, and unique gardening pieces and lush planters. The birds singing throughout is an added treat. Jim and Keith have done a beautiful job of restoring an historic site. We felt very safe walking through the neighborhood. We can't wait to go back next year~

Beautiful mansion, skillfully restored and tastefully decorated. Our hosts were there when you needed them, and not when you didn't. A lovely place to stay in a lovely city.

Meet The Galloway House Inn's Permanent Guest

Spectral former owner is known to chat up guests

Enocha Edenfield, Savannah Morning News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Savannah has no shortage of haunted hotels; inns, and B&Bs.

If you go on any of the ghost tours, you're bound to hear about the Civil War soldier wandering the Marshall House in search of his amputated arm or poor Wally, the unidentified body found in a wall during renovations. You may also hear about the Confederate soldiers sometimes spotted peering out of the windows of the Eliza Thompson Inn or how Lottie Churchill was driven insane with grief after she poisoned her mother and is now doomed to haunt the Forsyth Park Inn for eternity.

But one story you may not have heard is the tale of an unusually timed death that haunts a home-turned-inn just outside of the ghost tour routes.

Sitting in my car outside the Galloway House Inn on East 35th Street to wait out a summer morning storm, I had a chance to really look at the old home. If I hadn't already dug into the home's history before arriving, the thought that it could be haunted wouldn't have even. occurred to me. It looks cheerful which is probably how owners Keith Galloway and Jim Klotz prefer it.

Walking up the stairs to the front porch, I spot the only clue that there may be more to this home than it appears: dragon sconces on either side of the front door. Suddenly, I'm struck by the mental image of Gary Oldman's Dracula trading in the flowing capes and coats for a Mr. Rogers sweater to live as a quaint inn owner in Savannah.

Keith pops up from the nearby car-port to say hello and show me around, the home. He doesn't look like Gary Oldman or any version of Dracula I've ever seen, but he happily explains the history of the home and everything he discovered after buying it.  Keith tells Me that soon after he bought the home in 2005 he met a man who said he had worked there. He assumed the man had been 'a gardener or handyman.

“He said, 'I brought the bodies through the kitchen.’"

Anything can be normal in Savannah, but I was unaware my home was lacking a body-hauling guy.

Keith explains that after the shock wore off the man went on to tell him how the house had been a funeral home for a while.

The dining room had been the viewing room and the back bedroom on the first floor had been the embalming room.

That's certainly creepy, but I've never believed that funeral homes are automatically haunted. In my personal experience, ghosts tend to pop up in locations where they had a significant tie.

Someone who definitely had a tie to the building was the first owner Richard Martin Lester.

Keith researched the home's history at the Georgia Historical Society and the Bull Street Library and found Richard's name to add to the inn's website.

“When I went to the library, I found his death certificate on file.”

The cause of death was listed as "strangulation by hanging suicide.” Nothing I've found or Keith has found points to a reason for Richard to commit suicide. He was 50. He was a successful lawyer with a wife and two daughters.  As far as I know, no note was left.

While Keith admits he's never had an experience with Richard's ghost, he's definitely still around, and it seems he's collected some of his belongings.

Somewhere around 2010, some people who had bought documents at an auction reached out to him.

"All the documents had the same name on them, and there was one photograph: On the back of the photograph, it said Richard Martin Lester."

They decided the documents belonged at the Galloway house. "’ They just handed me this box and said, 'I think these have been here before.’"

Each suite now has one of those documents framed on the wall. Richard's picture, death certificate, and a diploma from Yale hang in a corner near the entrance.

Keith is clearly still perplexed about why Richard would kill himself, but he thinks there may be a connection to the timing of Richard's father.

According to old newspaper clippings covering the death and funeral arrangements, Daniel Lester was already on his way from Oklahoma to visit his son in Savannah. He was met at the train station, told of his son's death, and immediately led to the funeral.

Since it was a suicide, Richard's funeral was held in his home instead of at a church. He was buried in Bonaventure Cemetery.

Five years after his son's death, Daniel Lester would also be buried in. the same cemetery, but his large headstone would be put in front of Richard's, completely hiding it from the view of anyone passing by.

Was it Daniel's way of shielding his son from prying eyes? I'm not sure, but it did make it harder for me to find. Keith tells me that multiple guests have had experiences with Richard or at least spirit in the house.

"There were some women from Michigan who were staying in that back bedroom. One of them heard a noise and she sat up. At the foot of the bed, there was a man standing. She screamed bloody murder. It was like the neighborhood woke up, and he just vanished.

At the time, Keith shrugged it off as the power of suggestion and being in an old home that sometimes makes strange sounds. "Then I had a carpenter. His name was Kelly. He was a good old boy from small-town Georgia, drove a pickup truck, and didn't talk much.

"He just said to me, out of the blue one day, 'You know I've seen him. That Lester guy."'

According to the carpenter, Richard's ghost likes to hang out on the third floor in broad daylight. Keith tells me another Savannah group booked a room just to try to communicate with Richard. Because he was concerned about them accidentally burning the house down with candles or scaring other guests, he told them they could conduct their paranormal business in the backyard.

According to the couple, they were able to speak with Richard. He told them he liked the changes to the house, but as soon as they mentioned his death, he vanished.

The strange history of the home isn't promoted on the Galloway House Inn's website, but it isn't really hidden either.

Keith is upfront about the funeral home and Richard's death if people ask.

"I run a business. I don't really want to be 'entertainment'. I feel it's a sad situation. Somebody ' ended their own life. It’s a bit ghoulish to promote it. We just ask people to be respectful."

I agree.

Richard Martin Lester was a real person. He clearly had troubles.

While I love hearing about people's ghostly encounters at haunted inns, the experiences here seem to have an undercurrent of tragedy that pulls at the heartstrings.

I can't speak for Richard, but personally, I'm happy his haunted home isn't on any of the ghost tours.

Built in 1895 and restored in 2007, the Galloway House Inn is not an interpretation of Savannah history, it is a part of Savannah history.

The original owners of the house, the Lester family, were the subject of John Jakes's civil war novel “Savannah” and at the time were considered to be among the most prominent and wealthiest families in Georgia.

Today guests enjoy one and two-bedroom suites furnished in classic Savannah style, antique furniture, period oil paintings, and eclectic artifacts of local history, all coming together to create a special edge of style and history.

Located on a quiet residential street, just off Thomas Square and just 1.6 miles south of the Savannah River.

The South's Best Neighborhood 2020

#1 Thomas Square / Starland in Savannah, Georgia)

Like so many great Southern neighborhoods, the area Savannah locals call “Thomas Sq. / Starland” brings together gorgeous, well-preserved historic architecture, good restaurants (from fine dining to brewpubs), and trendy nightspots. From stalwarts like Elizabeth on 37th and Back in the Day Bakery to places like Green Truck Pub, which helped revitalize Thomas Sq. / Starland, this area has become a food lover’s hot spot in Savannah. Don’t miss The Vault, an Asian-inspired restaurant in a former bank, and local favorite The Atlantic.

There is no shortage of history, sultry beauty, and architectural delights. And a visit needn’t cost you much.

* Following is an excerpt from a much longer article.

"My Uber driver dropped me off at the beautifully restored Galloway House Inn, a Neoclassical plantation-style house built-in 1895.

One of the owners, Jim Klotz, met me on the wide, welcoming porch, behind a series of huge white columns, and took me around back to my apartment and it had everything I needed.

The price was right, too — $179 per night booked directly on www.TheGallowayHouse.com. For seasonal specials and promotions, check the inn’s website — which, by the way, has a section dedicated to its possibly being haunted."

Keith Galloway

Keith:

I spent my first 30 years in Chicago, followed by 20 years in Manhattan, and since 2005 I've been in Savannah.

In early 1995 I was living and working in Manhattan, on a Friday afternoon, after a 3 martini lunch and a few months shy of turning 40, I quit my job in Manhattan, a month later I got on a plane headed east and 6 months later return from the west, having traveled through Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Morrocco, Egypt, Pakistan, Dubai, India, China, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, Indonesia, and Japan. I'd spent my 40th in a Casablanca nightclub watching belly dancers that were as old and large as they were talented. On other trips, I've traveled through most of Central and South America, Northern and Western Europe, parts of Eastern Europe, Iceland, and Turkey.

In 2005 I came to Savannah looking for a 2nd home and met Jim at a rug auction. A few months later I found this house, it had been vacant for decades and was in pretty rough condition. My real estate agent said I should buy it, fix it up and then rent out the apartments to college students who would pay enough to cover the mortgage! Then someone who lived nearby told me I shouldn't buy it because I was from New York and didn't know what I was doing, so the next day I bought it and moved in with two rescued Great Danes, Charlie and Moose. A year and 9 months later, I woke up on a Monday morning and told all the carpenters and painters that I had had enough,  Friday was their last day, and anything left unfinished would just have to wait.

In 2006 and 2007 I rented a couple of the apartments to some grad students but realized the cost to maintain a house of this size was far more than most of them would pay, so I had to come up with a Plan B. I took up a couple of pictures of the outside of the house, copied some generic living room and bedroom pictures off of the Internet, and used them to create a listing on VRBO.com (Vacation Rental by Owner.com). In July 2007 we got our first reservation and as the students graduated I added their apartments to the VRBO listing. From there things just took off, there was no looking back and I eventually sold my place in Manhattan.

Jim:

Jim is from Baldwinsville, NY and was Exec. Director at Walt Disney World Hotels in Orlando, FL and later at the Weston Hotel in Savannah. He also has four great kids that he does everything for.

Over the last 20 years we've rescued 7 Great Danes, 5 have passed and now we have Emma and Hudson.

Emma is a 130 lb. lap dog born into a Great Dane’s body, and even though she’s been blind since birth, she can always find a comfy lap. Unfortunately, Emma was abused by her previous owner so she's very fearful of strangers.

Our most recent rescue, 140 lb. Hudson, waking up from a morning nap on the 2nd-floor porch.

REVIEW: Galloway House Inn, Historic Savannah

"Take a seat on the porch, won’t you?"

Why did this hotel catch your attention?
It’s impossible not to be awed by The Galloway House Inn, a historic mansion. The huge, two-story pillars and immaculate topiary give visitors the impression that they’re about to experience something very special.

What’s the backstory?
The house dates to 1895 and after a succession of owners, sat empty for a while before it was bought by current owner-operator Keith Galloway, who runs the place with his partner Jim Klotz. The Galloway House has been a real labor of love, and that work has paid off in spades: It’s one of the finest inns of its kind in the South.

Tell us about the rooms.
This is an all-suite property with discrete entrances for every suite. Our Caroline Suite had a bedroom, living area, kitchen, and bathroom. The overall decor blended contemporary and rustic pieces. Each suite is different, though, with some filled with antiques and others more bohemian.

Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?
The Wi-Fi is free and fast.

How was the service?
Galloway himself couldn’t be a more welcoming host, lending restaurant suggestions to everyone, regardless of whether they’re first-time guests or repeat visitors.

What type of travelers will you find here?
The hotel draws an affluent, mature crowd that values privacy and space, rather than the communal vibes of a huge full-service hotel.

What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, and make itself part of the scene?
The hotel, on the edges of the main historic district, sits in a quiet, residential neighborhood that fans of tranquility (and walking) will love. Forsyth Park is only a short walk away, and the rest of downtown is very accessible.

Any other hotel features worth noting?
A stay at a Southern mansion isn’t complete without sipping a cocktail on a front porch—and that’s particularly delightful here.

Bottom line: Worth it? Why?
If it’s your first time in the city, you might consider staying somewhere more in the thick of it, but if you’ve seen the delights of downtown before or want a different Savannah experience, this is the place. It’s hard to imagine a better version of local hospitality.

The Galloway House Inn is owner-occupied and has 4 guest suites.

Ghosts?

After living in the house for the past 16 years, I can't say that I've ever seen a ghost, but I've never really looked for one either. It's not uncommon to hear a thud or for something to fall off a table in the middle of the night, but I think that's typical in big old houses.

Some guests have seen and spoken to a ghost, but it's usually after taking a late-night haunted Savannah tour and enjoying a few glasses of wine.

Then again, the house does have a history...

"Strangulation by Hanging - Suicide"

Richard Martin Lester

Richard Martin Lester

So reads the Cause of Death on the death certificate, dated Saturday, April 3rd, 1926, of the first owner Richard M. Lester and the coroner estimated the time of death to be 1 AM. At the time, most people died at home but if they were somewhere else there was a place to indicate where the death took place, for Mr. Lester this was left blank. Many people have asked me where this happened but I don't know. Although, at the time there were exposed beams located in what is now the Turner Loft Suite, the Caroline Suite, and the basement of the main house.

The Death Notice in the morning edition of the local newspaper on Monday, April 5th, 1926 stated the funeral would be that afternoon at 4:30 if Mr. Lester's father arrived via train from the Oklahoma Territory that afternoon, as expected, the service would be at St. John's Episcopal Church but the afternoon edition of the paper stated the funeral would instead be at  Mr. Lester's residence. At the time most churches did not allow the funeral of a suicide victim but Rev. W. A. Jonnard came to the house to conduct the service and W. L. Gignillat delivered the eulogy, closing with “No friend of his can view his untimely end without profound sorrow-some may be too quick of speech, but those who have looked death squarely in the face and have pondered most on the eternal verities will leave this tragedy as all else which the finite mind cannot fathom with Him who is infinite Love and Wisdom and will only say softly to his own soul “the Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away.”

Mr. Lester left behind his wife Victorine and their two daughters, Myrta and Margaret who continued to live in the house.

The obituary was titled "R.M. LESTER RESTS IN BONAVENTURE CEMETERY"

Mr. Lester grew up on Drayton St. across from Forsyth Park, attended Phillips Academy in Andover MA, earned his law degree from Yale, was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Past Master Solomon's Masonic Lodge.

In 2011 local historians Steve and Judy Dunn acquired a box of documents that all had the same name and one photograph was included. The name was Richard Martin Lester and the documents included his law degree from Yale University, written in Latin on parchment, his diploma from the nation's oldest boarding school, Phillips Academy in Andover Mass, and his certificate of nobility from the Solomon's Lodge of the Mystic Shrine of the Masons, this is the only document with his signature. On the back of the image was written "Richard Martin Lester (Attorney), My Grandfather, Mimi and Myrta's Father & husband of Victorine Myrta Cooke Lester (Dower). The Dunn's brought these to the house, handed them to me, and said "I think these have been here before", it had been 85 years since Mr. Lester's death and 7 days before what would have been his 136 birthday.

In the 1950's and 60's the 2nd floor of the house was occupied by Ansa-Call Inc., a telephone answering service.

Hayman-Futrell Funeral Home

In the 70's Hayman-Futrell Funeral Home occupied the first floor. Shortly after buying the house a former employee told me how he’d delivered bodies through the kitchen door, performed the embalming in the back bedroom, and then laid out the deceased in the bay window of what is now the Remington Suite. In the middle of the night, a guest from Michigan saw a man standing at the foot of the bed watching her, she screamed, he vanished.

For some unknown reason, a previous owner installed deadbolt locks on both sides of every door, including every closet, pantry, and bathroom door. One morning a few years ago, a guest found the bedroom doorknob in the bathroom sink.

The house as it looked about 60 years ago.

We found this little headstone in the backyard, we cleaned it, put it back where we found it and we don't know if there is anything beneath it. A local historian said that as there's no name or date, the child was most likely "born out of wedlock".

“Haunted Homes for Your Next Vacation”

"This 1895 mansion may still be home to its original owner. Guests have reported hearing doors close when no one was there, seeing objects move on their own, and seeing a man at the foot of the bed. This man is thought to be the home’s original owner, Richard Martin Lester, who committed suicide in it in 1926. The mansion is divided into four guest suites."
